“We’ll be fine, right?” Ai asked.

“Of course we will.” Yukito said and then the both of them grew silent.

Ai believes in Yukito. She believes in him but she knew there are some things both of them couldn't control so she just hopes.

But she can’t help but worry sometimes and during those times, she’d always asked this question and Yukito would always answer the same.

From the very beginning, Ai's family objected strongly on her dating Yukito.

Hashimoto-san was a very strict father. For Ai’s whole life, she had followed everything he said except for this case.

Ai knew her father just wanted what was best for her but she really wish he would stop. She loves Yukito so very much. She feels sad that her dad couldn’t see this; saying that it has got to do with family background & that Ai will have to suffer for the rest of her life if she were to be with him.

It was these quiet times that Ai holds dearly. A few minutes of silence, a few minutes where it seems it’s just the two of them.

Due to family’s pressure, Ai felt a bit insecure and the two of them quarrel very often.

Ai loves Yukito deeply, but she always finds herself asking him, "How deep is your love for me?"

But Yukito wasn’t good with his words, and couldn’t really alleviate Ai’s insecurity.

This often causes Ai to be very upset.

With that & the family's pressure, Ai often vent her anger on him.

As for him, he only endures it in silence.

And then it will always end up with Ai asking that question again, and Yukito replying with his answer.

---

After a couple of years, Yukito finally graduated and decided to further his studies overseas.

Ai didn’t really want this, but she wanted to support he Yukki.

Yukito was actually doing this for Ai. It was so he could at least be proud of something in front of Ai's family.

A month before leaving, they met, there by the park; their very special place. They loved strolling there. It was where they first met, and where they always secretly met when they started going out.

Yukito was already there when Ai arrived. She went straight from her university so her father wouldn’t know.

Ai smiled when he saw her, but there was a tint of sadness in his eyes as well.

“Hey…” He said.

“Hey…” Ai said gloomily. She wanted to support Yukito but thinking that these strolls would be gone in a month's time, she really couldn’t even smile naturally.

“I’ll carry it.” He said as he took all her bags.

Ai was surprised, "Don't take it all, it's heavy. Let me carry some."

"It's okay. It's not heavy, really."

Ai smiled, Yukki can be stubbornly sweet like that. "Come on, at least let me carry my handbag."

Yukki shook his head, and then he brought out something from his pocket.

"Carry this, instead." He said, handing it to Ai.

Ai was speechless. It was a small box.

Silently, she opened it, and surely, inside was a ring.

"I'm not very good with words. But all I know is that I love you. If you allow me, I will take care of you for the rest of my life. As for your family, I'll try my best to talk them round. Will you marry me?" Yukito asked.

Ai didn't really know what to say so she just hugged him.

---

As he'd promise, Yukito talked to her family.

Ai's dad wasn't bending, but again and again Yukito visited their home.

With the Yukito's determination, the family finally gave in and agreed to let them get married.

So before he left, they officially got engaged.

Ai went out to the working society, whereas Yukki was overseas, continuing his studies.

They sent their love through emails & phone calls.

Though it's hard, but both never thought of giving up. Both had been an inspiration for each. The thought of each kept the other going. Their love were getting stronger even though, or rather, because they were apart.

Then came that day.

It was just a normal day. Ai had done her usual routine in the morning and had set out to work breakfast.

It was one of those days where she gravely missed Yukito.

Pausing for a moment, Ai decided to make a detour through the park. It was a longer way but she did have time to spare.

Ai took her time strolling through the park, reminiscing. It has already been three years. Just a little more wait and Yukito would be back.

Ai smiled at the thought. She really missed him dearly.

Ai was already by the road then. She looked up to see her office building.

She sighed, it was another boring day ahead of her.

The green light glowed and Ai started walking across the street.

That was when it happened. It was as if everything was happening so fast but at at the same time it was as if she was watching it in slow motion.

All she could hear was the horn of the rushing car. The driver inside was yelling something in panic, but Ai couldn't understand.

She knew she needed to get out of there... she needed to move. She knew that but her body seemed to have frozen. She couldn't even move an inch.

The last thing she saw was the sky and then, everything went black.

When she woke up, the first thing she saw was the light.

Figures, she was in the hospital.

She looked around and saw her parents beside her bed. She realized that she was badly injured.

Her mom was crying gazing at her.

'She must have been very scared.'

Ai tried to smile. Seeing her mom like that, she wanted to comfort her.

But then there was something odd.

She tried to reach for her mom. Her mom took her hand.

Something was definitely odd.

She realized that all that could come out of her mouth was just a sigh.

She couldn't speak.

She has lost her voice.

The doctors says that the impact on her brain has caused her to lose her voice.

Listening to her parents' comfort, but with nothing coming out from her, she broke down.

During the stay in hospital, Ai only cried and cried. It hurts more that she couldn't hear herself crying.

A week after she was conscious, she was allowed to go home.

Upon reaching home, everything seems to be the same. Except for the ringing tone of the phone. Which pierced into her heart everytime it rang. She did not wish to let Yukito know.

For a while she ignored Yukito's letters and phone calls until finally she decided.

She wrote a letter to him saying that she does not wish to wait any longer. She didn't want to burden him.

With that, she sent the ring back to him.

In return, Yukito sent millions and millions of reply, and countless of phonecalls. All Ai could do, besides crying, is still crying....

Ai's parents decided to move away, hoping that she could eventually forget everything and be happy.

With a new environment, Ai learned sign language and started a new life; telling herself everyday that she must forget Yukito...

But knowing inside that it was impossible.

One day, their friend, Ryuu came and told her that he's back. She asked Ryuu not to let him know what happened to her.

Since then, there were no more contact with Yukito.

A year has passed without any news of him.

One Saturday, Ryuu came for a visit. He always does this once in a while even with his busy schedule just to hang out. Though they were the same age, he really takes care of her like a big brother.

But it seems this time, he had another purpose.

With a grim face, Ryuu handed Ai an envelope.

Ai looked at him in question.

Ryuu sighed and said, "It's from Yukki. He asked me to give it to you."

Ai felt her heart pound.

The envelope... It was a wedding invitation.

She felt her heart shattered. Slowly she opened the letter.

But when she saw what's inside, she felt as if her world stopped. Honestly she was confused.

'Nishii Yukito and Hashimoto Ai' was written.

She looked at Ryuu again, who was now grinning. She was about to ask him what's going on but then she saw the Yukito standing in front of them.

He was smiling at her.

And then he raised his hands and used sign language.

Ai couldn't help but cry. She nodded at him frantically, smiling brightly.

What he said was this: "I've spent a year's time to learn sign language. Just to let you know that I've not forgotten our promise. Let me have the chance to be your voice. I Love You."

And with that, he slipped the ring back into her finger.
